DIY4Change - UKRAINIAN DIGITAL METHOD
The process of developing and making strategic decisions is based on the standards of the Council of Europe, the guiding principles of citizen participation, and the 12 principles of good governance in the development and adoption of effective political decisions at the local, national, and regional levels. In the context of globalization (digitalization, energy conservation, resource redistribution, the influence of transnational corporations, etc.), current conditions (martial law, COVID-19 quarantine restrictions), and the recovery of Ukrainian communities from the consequences of military actions, the success and effectiveness of strategic decision implementation (especially in the environmental sector) and the sustainability of their results directly depend on the involvement and participation of stakeholders in their development and implementation. DIY4Change method has been ensuring the proper formation and monitoring of the success of strategic decisions by authorities since 2019, even under martial law conditions.
I am confident that innovative Ukrainian DIY4Change method, digital tools and methodologies (created by Ukrainian experts from the "CIVIL SOCIETY DEVELOPMENT FORUM" NGO) will contribute to strengthening democratic processes for the benefit of people, the development of countries, and the improvement of cities!
Author of the method, Oleksii Kovalenko
The goal of implementing the DIY4Change method is to protect the rights and freedoms of citizens to participate in the effective decision-making process, ensuring that their opinions are considered, and their voices heard
The standards and principles of the DIY4Change method are implemented in the following key applied components
1. Digital  – ensures the transformation of the processes of development, adoption, implementation, and monitoring of public decisions;
2. Gamified  – facilitates the gamification of the process of public engagement in decision-making and education in the basics of public participation;
3. Educational  – offers a new "learning by doing" format;
4. General  – aims to increase the efficiency of the decision-making process and achieve reliable results by using unique additional methodologies that enhance other components.
In practice, the method is implemented through a set of applied methodologies, digital modules, and specific tools (matrices). The DIY4Change methodology allows for the combination of the digital component with educational and gamified components in various ways.

Based on DIY4Change methodologies, moduls and digital matrices, we have developed:
4 methodologies of the Council of Europe (2019-2024) in public`s involvement/participation in the decision-making process, teaching the basics of public participation, etc.;
IFES (2022) - the search for best practices of online platforms with training participants in the election process;
Civil Network OPORA (2022) – evaluation of public demand, monitoring of the impact of the results of the use of public participation tools of the eDEM platform under the EGAP (2023) initiative;
The Council of Europe (2023) - needs assessment of Ukrainian communities during the war;
Ukrainian Catholic University (2022) - monitoring and evaluating the activities of public sphere entities, etc.
